Glenn O’Connell

Before we were lucky enough to have Glenn join us here at Bright U3A as the Woodwork co convenor with John Gilmour, Glenn had spent many years as a highly skilled and respected woodwork and carpentry teacher at Wangaratta Technical school.
In fact, many of the high-quality builders and cabinet makers in the district learned and perfected their craft under Glenn’s expert tutelage.
In the 10 years that Glenn has been the Convenor of our Woodies group, his calm, friendly manner and fantastic sense of humour have created an eclectic bunch of budding carpenters who really appreciate and enjoy his quiet, expert guidance on materials, tools, skills, techniques and safety.
Glenn was instrumental in negotiating with the Men’s Shed to relocate the U3A Woodworkers there after the Shire moved us on from the Scout hall several years ago. He organized the shipping container, fitting it out with tools and equipment and getting power supplied.
The fabulous wooden chopping boards that the Woodies have made for some time enjoyed a resurgence in popularity when Glenn had the brainwave of bringing them along to our end of term coffee mornings for sale, at a very competitive price for our members. A few years ago, he approached me with the idea of imprinting the U3A logo into the boards, promoting our organisation to all new arrivals to town who receive the Dickens Real Estate welcome pack, containing these classy boards.
So not only is he an ideas man, but he is also an absolute gentleman in every sense of the word and a pleasure to know.
It is my privilege Glenn, to thank you on behalf of the whole organisation, for your dedication as a Convenor Volunteer at Bright U3A and we wish you great health, happiness and enjoyment in all you do in the future.
